Casa dos Loios by Shiadu
The guesthouse of Casa dos Loios by Shiadu was once a 16th-century mansion belonging to a notable Portuguese family. Both its facade and interior architecture have been preserved so guests can step back through the centuries at this spot on the pedestrian Rua das Flores in the historic center.
Each of the 20 rooms is thoughtfully decorated, with sizes ranging from single to family where travelers can feel at home. Add breakfast to your stay to start the day off with fresh pastries and more, then let the attentive staff point you in the direction of the many attractions and transit options just within walking distance, including São Bento station, Clérigos church, the Ribeira River walking path and its many port cellars, and Dom Luís bridge.
PortoBay Flores
Also on the Rua das Flores, the five-star PortoBay Flores brings 500 years of historical luxury to a manor house on this charming street. Half of the hotel is a 16th-century palace with 11 rooms, while the other half houses 55 rooms in a new just-built wing, all along with a reading room, 18th-century chapel, and relaxing landscaped patio.
The Bistrô Flores serves three meals a day within the old palace's granite walls, or head to the terrace of the Bar dos Maias and mingle with the life of the Rua das Flores. Retreat to the Mandalay Spa for Southeast Asian-inspired treatments and a white stone indoor swimming pool under a skylight.
Hotel Internacional
Find the Hotel Internacional just off Aliados Avenue, the main avenue of Porto's historic center. Its 35 rooms pay tribute to the history of Portugal, with granite details and thematic textiles.
Head to the breakfast room in the mornings to start your day or take a cocktail break in the English-style lounge bar. Stop in the cozy Almadinha restaurant and enjoy traditional Portuguese cuisine under its original vaulted ceilings from its founding in 1905.
Mercure Porto Centro Aliados
Also close to the Aliados neighborhood, the Mercure Porto Centro Aliados is within walking distance from Old Porto and close to a slew of restaurants and other attractions, including City Market Bolhao and Oporto Coliseum. As a bonus for those with their own wheels, the hotel even has parking available nearby.
Rooms offer either garden or city views. Order a snack or pick up a board game from reception. In the summer, relax on the garden terrace and cool off with a dip in the outdoor pool.
The Editory House Ribeira Porto Hotel
Over in the Uniao de Freguesias do Centro district, also close to the Porto Cathedral and Mercado do Bolhao, you'll find a mix of modern chic and historic touches at The House Ribeira Porto Hotel. Visitors especially appreciate its high level of service and enjoy the American breakfast.
