Fabio Fasone

My name is Fabio and I am a Travel Designer at Your Custom Journey. I was born in Venice and spent 10 years in Florence before moving back to Venice. I have a passion for traveling and I love to share the marvels of my country.

The passion I have for my job is my strength. I love to create unique and life-enriching vacations, to have strong connections with locals and to provide insider access and exclusive experiences, which I believe, are the key to understanding my countries culture and customs on a deeper level.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"Italy from the North to the South. I specialize in: Leisure, art and culture, food and wine, honeymoon, Jewish tour, families tour, small groups, luxury travel."

How did you get involved in travel?

"I started my career in the travel industry almost 20 years ago in Venice. I began as a tour leader working for large groups and cruise lines. Traveling has always been my passion and I do it every chance I get. I like to discover the many hidden corners of our beautiful country and share them with our travelers."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"Well, there are many to choose from, but I would have to say my favorite travel experience was when me my friends and I set sail through the Elafiti islands in Croatia. That was an amazing and truly unforgettable experience! I had the chance to discover incredible islands, incredible views, and incredible foods."

It can be really stressful to look up reviews of places, compare pricing, and then need help with the language after booking. Fabio and Deborah were fantastic to work with. Fabio created the itinerary and helped adjust it after some feedback. Deborah was a great contact before the trip.

To start my trip, my husband and I experienced a delay in our flight and ended up arriving very late at night. Our Italian concierge, Roberta, was phenomenal. We communicated through Whatsapp and she reassured me that we would be taken care of once we arrived and not to worry about any delays in our flights. She also helped us get recommendations and reservations for a Christmas Day lunch which was very helpful. It was also really nice to have private transfers when we moved from city to city and to and from the airport. The train station in Milan would have been a little difficult to navigate on our own.

I thought our itinerary was a great mix of small private tours and days where we were free to explore on our own. In Milan, we did a tour of Duomo as well as La Scala theater. Our guide, Barbara, was wonderful and very knowledgeable. We enjoyed this on our first day as we got our bearings in the city and were able to walk around a bit and explore the Christmas markets nearby. We also did a cooking class that was awesome. Our cooking teacher, Debora was very friendly and made it seem so easy to cook up some delicious pasta and tiramisu.

In Florence, we did a wine and olive oil tasting tour in Tuscany and a walking tour of the city that included museum tickets to see Michalangelo's David sculpture. We enjoyed all aspects of these itineraries in Florence.

In Rome, we did a tour of the Coleseum, Palestine Hill, the Roman Forum, and a separate tour of Vatican city and the Sistine Chapel. These were really crowded, so I was glad to have tickets and not worry about entrance into these tourist destinations. Additionally in Rome, we did an Aperitivo tour/food tour which was delicious and had us returning to a few favorite spots while we were still in town. Valeria, our food tour guide, was great company and we really enjoyed eating our way through Rome.

This hotel was so lovely and perfectly located along the river. They had a bottle of Prosecco and fruit for us waiting in the room as a congratulations and that was so lovely to start our trip in Florence. The breakfast was delicious and staff was very helpful. The hotel provided umbrellas for guests and honestly the location couldn't be beat. It was so close to everything and had a beautiful view from our room.

The hotel is located right across from the US embassy and very nearby one of the large parks. The rooms itself was nothing too special and it was fine for us to just rest and be out exploring the rest of the day. The beds were a little more firm than I am used to, so it was not very comfortable for me. It was about a 20-minute walk to most attractions.

While it was really cool to see Vatican City and the Sistine Chapel, it was overwhelmingly crowded. In Naples another local coordinator met us on our arrival to bring us to our driver, Luigi, who took us to Positano. The following day we did a private boat tour of Capris and Anna Capris, which included a visit to the blue grotto, really a must see if you are going to Capri. We enjoyed a wine tasting and lunch and visiting the city of Rovillo and Amalfi and was guided by our driver, Carmine, who regaled us with stories about life growing up in Amalfi. The coastline is beautiful but the road to get there is not for the feint of heart! From Positano we returned to Naples and headed to Assisi. We had a great walking tour of the city and stayed in a special place called Nun, which was a convent converted to a hotel/spa. The spa jacuzzi was amazing and the hotel had just 18 rooms. Assisi was very interesting and a fantastic addition to our trip. We went to to Sienna and Florence, where we had a 5 hour Italian cooking class. Another great experience.

All in all we had a great tour of Italy and we are thankful to Kim Kim and all the guides and drivers who made this a trip of a lifetime!!

We stayed in the Santa Rosa Grand Hotel in Milan. Very nice hotel.
Florence: I can’t remember the name of the hotel in Florence but it was nice. This hotel had the best breakfast.
Half our group went into the Tuscany wine region next. We visited several wineries and also went to the Italian/US WW2 memorial for US soldiers killed in this region. Very moving! Extremely well done. Thank you Claudio for taking us there.
The other half had a rather harrowing experience riding bikes on a bike tour in the old city. The guide was not good. She actually rode off and left them. The gelato making was a success though. Everyone loved that.
The Cinque Terra was kind of a disaster due to the fact that our driver spoke NO English and had never been to the area before. We were expecting an English speaking guide but that didn’t happen. Our driver just dumped us out and indicated we should meet him back there at 4. Because we had expected to have a guide we didn’t really look into the possibilities. We ended up riding the train to Monterosso where the kids went swimming and we did some shopping. The tour company offered to pick us up there to try to make up for the completely non-English speaking driver. Since the driver had never been there before, we had a hard time finding each other. Definite an experience.
We had great helpers with our train transfers. They all did a good job.
Venice: Nice Hotel, my son had a private terrace. Large private terrace. We went on a city tour through Basilica San Marco-and the Doge palace. Nice tour with Allyssa. She was very knowledgeable but a bit overly so. We were pretty exhausted and struggled a bit…maybe if it hadn’t been so hot! Our visit to the Academy was, of course, one of the highlights. We also did a food tour. The adults enjoyed it. The kids, not so much. The gondola ride was great. Everyone really enjoyed it.
Train transfer back to Milan was great and uneventful. Flew out the next day.

Fabio was very nice to work with. I think he was a little busy as sometimes we didn't hear back. We also didn't quite get the level of detail and communication that we would have liked to understand what he had planned and feel comfortable and confident in our trip. For instance, we asked for a boating experience and didn't realize until we got to the boat place that what he booked was a 9-hour excursion that was more focused on visiting towns than boating.

We did very much appreciate some of the concierge's help while we were there. Our luggage was lost and she was very helpful in tracking it down and getting it to us. And the drivers were always on time. We didn't understand the purpose of the person who met us in Sorrento, as he didn't live there and didn't provide any helpful info. Neither he nor the concierge could help us with local restaurant info, etc.

We also didn't really understand who to ask for questions we had and felt like one person would say, no ask the other person, etc. which wasn't great.

We did really love the person who was with us in Radda, Felipo. We are glad we did too as even though we thought we were getting booked on totally different excursions, he ended up leading them all - a biking tour, a hiking tour, and even a cooking class.

All in all, we had a great trip, but feel there are some kinks that Kim Kim, etc. should work out.

Very bare bones hotel. Cheap towels, toilet paper, sheets. You have to pay to get a robe or an extra towel. We could hear word for word conversations of the people outside. It also wasn't cleaned very well, and the AC could not keep up with the extreme outdoor heat. I found most of the staff to be overly formal and one, when we requested an upgraded room, to be on the rude side. It is super old, so if you are looking mainly for historic character and not a higher-end experience, this may work for you.

We ended up enjoying this hotel, but giving it 3 stars because the first room they put us in smelled strongly of mold and had black mold around two of the vents in the room. It was also right next to the pool so we could hear the people at the pool in our room, and it also did not have hot water. The hotel initially said sorry we are booked when we tried to get another room, but I was persistent and magically they gave us a different room that did not have these issues. We loved that room. The other thing that was a bummer about this hotel was the pool. We had not had a break from our kids in years and so were bummed that the pool was full of kids being kids - it just was not at all relaxing and so we didn't use it other than the initial time we went. Very good breakfast. Really pretty hotel overall.

Alessia, our lead concierge, was attentive to every detail and went above and beyond to help locate and retrieve some lost luggage. She was so kind and communicated with us daily to make sure our vacation was going well and to review our itinerary for the following day. Our transfers from city to city were easy and stress free. Every concierge was pleasant and eager to help. I knew from the moment we arrived that we were in good hands and that I wouldn't have to worry about anything. I highly recommend the kimkim team and will definitely use them again!

Our experience with kimkim has once again been nothing but the best. The ability to customize an itinerary to my specific desires is the best part of this service. Once we told Fabio what our interests are and the type of vacation we wanted to experience, Fabio gave us excellent choices and suggestions.

Since we are very into experiencing culture through food, we set up a food tour in Sorrento. Now, this food tour was not like ones we have experience before- where you go to local restaurants and sample traditional foods. This food tour started on a cheese farm, traveled to a family owned pizza shop where we made our own pizzas, and ended on a lemon farm! It was one of my most memorable days. We learned so much, about the way of the people and how it shaped the food/culture. I highly recommend this tour for those who really want to explore an authentic side of Italy.

Another favorite day was the trip to Ischia to experience a day at the hot springs. We choose to go to the water park Negombo. This park was most breathtaking- the natural beauty of the island was kept intact, well manicured, and the pools were all full of different features. I would recommend a day here to anyone looking to unwind.

We really enjoyed our hiking guide from our Path of Gods hike. It really is a wonderful experience to get to know the history from a local. He was very informative and able to open our eyes to things we would have never known about along that hike.

We loved each hotel that Fabio picked for us. It was only until we stayed at each hotel and experienced the city highlights that we could fully appreciate the optimal locations picked out for us! Thank you for that. Our favorite hotel was Hotel Corallo- the costal views were unbeatable.

Every driver was very punctual, professional, and friendly. A very special thank you to the driver who picked us up on May 13 from the Naples train station to our hotel, (we apologize, we cannot remember their name), they were with Ms. Deborah and while we were reviewing our itinerary details for future drop off/pick ups and excursions, he was very attentative to details and helped point out small tips for us.

It was great having a personal concierge in Italy, having Mrs. Daniela help us through any details that we were unsure of was very reassuring. Her availability and ability to help us at any time was greatly appreciated.

We cannot wait to plan another trip with kimkim! We don’t know where and we don’t know when, but we do know that it will be amazing.

The hotel in Venice was superb, Al Reali, a charming and comfortable hotel, well located with an impressive breakfast. Staff very welcoming and friendly.
On to the Amalfi Coast. The hotel Corallo was okay, staff was very good, breakfast was very good ,views were stunning. It is a very attractive hotel, but lacking certain amenities, like a coffee maker, readily available ice, make-up mirror. led to believe that hourly transit to the town was provided, and it was not that often. We also had an issue with noise from the lobby and a bathroom door that was difficult to open.. All of these issues were somewhat handled by the manager, but the issue with the door handle was never really fixed.
However we were lucky enough to have a wonderful driver,
carmine. We kept him for 3 days.
It was a pleasant stay but I would not go back there.

On to Rome. Perfection. HotelMartis Palace location was ideal. Hotel completely charming and the staff most accommodating. We would definitely go back there and recommend it to everyone. Great breakfast also. Lovely rooftop lounge overlooking the entire skyline. Louisa was a lovely guide for Rome . completely knowledgeable and very flexible to our schedule.

The trip was a great success thanks to Kimkim

The first hotel Bauer II Palazzo in Venice the was perfectly located and only a few blocks from Saint Marks Square and made it easy to walk everywhere and for us to pick up the water bus system to visit different islands like Murano for glass blowing and Burano for lace making items. Alessia our Concierge in Venice was amazing. She made sure we saw the sites and had a great experience in Venice and made sure of all our other visits to Bologna, Florence and Rome all went with out any problems. Vincenzo was a last-minute addition as a guide in Catania. He showed us so much more than just the city. You should definitely add him to your list of great tour directors.
The whole trip is one we will share with our family and friends and would give it a 5 * rating.
Here are a few of my suggestions for future travelers:
Realize that driving yourself in Sicily is not easy. The city streets are very narrow and parking is almost impossible. Instead of traffic lights, they often use traffic circles which are poorly marked and often confusing, even with Google. On the Autostrada there are tolls which are like E-Z pass in the US. You have to be careful choosing your toll booth. In the future, we would hire a driver.
My last advice for future travelers would be to not expect an on-time departure from the smaller airports if you hope to continue on to the next leg of your flight. The smartest move we made was to book a reservation the night before our departure in Rome Hilton which is within walking distance of the airport. I believe you should share suggestions like these with future travelers.

I felt during the planning process I got the service I expected. However, I felt that I was not attended too as much as I thought I would when I actually traveled. I felt a little alone out there which is why I used your services.

On the days I had off, I was not offered any advice or suggestions. When it came to the activities that was planned, it felt like the concierge was just checking off a box on a list then moving on to the next thing. I felt things could be more personable, like visiting a family or friend who makes sure everything is okay and offer up some local information to create a better experience.
