Weather
In February, the weather is most comfortable in the southern sections of Morocco. In Marrakech, days are sunny and highs hover around 70°F, with lows dipping into the lower 50s. It's chillier in the north, with more cloud cover: in Tangier, highs are in the low sixties, and most days are gray. Though temperatures can climb to the upper 60s in the Atlas Mountains, it's much colder at night. February isn't as rainy as January, but you'll still likely have a rainy day or two during your visit.
Crowds & Costs
February is a slow month for tourism in Morocco, making it a good time to visit if you'd rather avoid major crowds at popular attractions. You'll also pay less for accommodations (and possibly flights to and from Morocco) by visiting during the low season, as many hotels and riads offer off-season pricing.
Where to Go
Your best bets for February are the Atlantic coast, where temperatures are warm, and the Sahara Desert, where the mild weather makes trekking and camel rides particularly pleasant. Keep in mind that the High Atlas mountains are a pleasant option, temperature-wise, but rainy weather throughout January and February sometimes bring river levels too high, making some trails unpassable.
What to Do
February is a great time to explore the desert, which can be unbearably hot in summer. Take advantage of the cooler weather and sunny days to try trekking, camel rides, or an ATV tour. This is an ideal time for taking pictures, as the air is typically clear and free of dust.
Relax at the beach, where temperatures are relatively warm, or spend time in the cities—February is an ideal time to hire a private guide and explore Fes at a leisurely pace.
Skiing is an option, too. Head to Oukaïmeden, located in the High Atlas Mountains about 50 miles south of Marrakech, where a simple winter sports center with a small selection of downhill runs awaits. In the Middle Atlas, the Michlifen ski station near the village of Ifrane is a solid alternative.
February Events
Almond Blossom Festival – Morocco's almond capital of Tafraoute (and nearby Valle Dei Tempi) hosts a celebration of the harvest every February. The Almond Blossom Festival features traditional Berber art forms, from live music to folkloric dance, and a range of almond products for sale. The date varies each year, but the festival always happens in February. If you make the trip, don't miss the chance to hike in the nearby mountains and check out the famous Blue Painted Rocks.
