Introducing Laos

The landscape of Laos is lusciously green and the country has established itself as a leader in ecotourism in Southeast Asia.

When is the best time to visit?
Visit Laos between September and April to experience the warm and dry season.

Where to go in Laos?
Take advantage of Laos' community-based approach to tourism and stay with a local in their home in one of the villages, gaze out over rice fields and soak in the slow-paced way of life. Visit the cultural center of Luang Prabang, where you can see the saffron-robed monks go about their business with the rest of the population.

How many days do I need?
Spend at least 5 days traveling in Laos to truly get a feel for the country, but don’t rush. Locals will encourage you to take your time.

This 14-day overland adventure explores the top highlights of two distinct countries, from the ethnic minority villages, plus the spectacular waterfalls and bucolic "4000 Islands" of the Mekong River, in Laos, to Cambodia's "floating villages" and the great temple complex of Angkor. Along the way, you'll get to explore by river boat, bicycle, and tuk-tuk, while gaining an immersion and intimate insight into the two nations' diverse cultures.

Northern Laos Adventure: Biking, Hiking and Kayaking - 4 Days

Mountain biking, kayaking, hiking, cultural sightseeing in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a homestay with a local family, and a luxurious stay in a private bungalow — all in a four-day trip? You've got it. This active getaway is short but action-packed, well-suited to travelers who want to get away from it all, breathe some fresh air, and fit in a couple of workouts along the way.

Riding through the stunning topography of northern Laos

Northern Laos Boat & Bike Adventure - 9-Day Itinerary

Northern Laos is topographically incredible! These higher elevations are inhabited by a variety of tribes who have never fully integrated into the modern Laos state. Flowing between these stunning mountains are wild rivers, including the iconic Mekong which at this point rushes through narrow rocky sections where Elephants occasionally can be seen on the shore. Despite the jagged mountain landscape, Northern Laos can be ridden by those who are not fond of hill climbing.

Tui, our guide, was amazing. He is such a warm and pleasant person to spend a week with. He is helpful, resourceful, insightful, intelligent, and fun. We had a wonderful experience and holiday and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We would recommend this to many people. The trip worked like clockwork and was a great pleasure and we will look to do more holidays with Grasshopper. Tui should be commended for being a great guide. We had no incidents in the whole trip. The Sennali hotel was a poor experience with the noise from the speaker announcements at night. we suggest changing this hotel as it is not comfortable also.

Thank you for a wonderful holiday.
