Introducing Finland

Finland offers the best of both worlds—or rather, the best of both major travel seasons. If you're in need of a warm summer vacation without the crowds, you'll revel in this country's opportunities for hiking, lake swimming, and exploration of Helsinki's metropolitan culture. Travelers planning a winter wonderland getaway won't be disappointed either: the outdoor activities are endless, its an ideal place to spot the Northern Lights, and its the only place where you can visit Santa Clause's hometown (complete with reindeer).

When is the best time to visit?
Despite its sky-high spot on the map, Finland's climate is more temperate than you would think. Yes, its winters are dark and cold—but due to the forgiving Gulf Stream, temperatures don't dip too far below freezing. Take advantage of the snow with all manner of winter sports, and long nights mean better chances of spotting the Northern Lights. Summer is when you'll have the best weather and widest number of activities and attractions available—and even in these popular vacation months, you rarely need to worry about crowds. Spring is very short (and often still snowy), but fall is a particularly good time for photographers to book a trip: the hills become cloaked in the brilliant hues of autumn leaves.

How many days do I need?
Finland is an easy flight from Stockholm and St. Petersburg, so a quick trip isn't out of the question. With three days, you can easily experience the culinary joys and architectural wonders of fabulous Helsinki. In five days, you're able to tour a larger region—check out this Lapland tour, which includes skiing, snowshoeing, guiding a team of huskies, and sleeping in glass igloos under the stars. With a week or more, you can take a substantial road trip through half of the country. Try the southern coast from Helsinki in the summer months, or this nine-day winter itinerary that takes you all the way to Norway.

This was one of a lifetime trip! Absolutely Amazing! We have a 7 year old and we decided to take the chance and travel from Atlanta, GA in the US to Lapland to be able to find the Real Santa and do everything possible to make my son experience Santa with all the bells and whistles!

Finding the right partner to do is very important. And here is where Kim Kim comes to life once again. We chose NORD DMC with Julia and Thao behind everything, and when I say everything, I really mean it!

I am a very particular traveler because I like to do research first and find the exact places to stay and the activities I want to do, and then, work the itinerary together so that I can get the local insights and the experience and expertise of people like Julia and Thao.

They understood my wishes and gave me different options until we were able to create the perfect experience and spend a wonderful Christmas in a beautiful country.

The hotels they chose, the adventures tailored for our family and all the ideas of what to do and where to eat were on point. Not to mention that they were always available if I needed to ask something. They are both very warm and knowledgeable.

I have a lot of more countries to go, but if I go back to Lapland or any of the Scandinavian countries, I will contact them for sure!
Thank you Thao and Julia for a Magical White Christmas with Santa in Lapland.

Our trip was all about immersing ourselves in the environment and taking beautiful day hikes. Elina & Sonja organised a great itinerary which gave us a taste of the different types of environment in the Arctic Circle. It wasn't till the end that we reflected how different each day was and how that made the trip so great! The hikes were well marked and really suitable for us in terms of difficulty and duration. The night in the wilderness cabin was a highlight- a great way to meet other Finnish hikers and have an authentic Finnish summer hiking experience. The accommodation varied: self-catering cabins (with sauna's) and hotels which were clean and comfortable and in great locations. It was easy to pick up food supplies (snacks, breakfast food) along the way. My partner's need for gluten-free food was NO problem at all in Finland and Norway. Everything is labelled. How refreshing! Gareth and Amanda were fantastic guides and we really enjoyed our time with them. Everything went smoothly, as planned, and we enjoyed every single minute of our fabulous trip. Highly recommended, and we look forward to coming back one day soon.

Planning the trip with Ingrid was a dream! She had excellent suggestions, was thorough in her planning and left us very detailed instructions. She even gave us maps so that we would have a general idea where we needed to go. I have given all of my friends the recommendations on booking travel through kim kim. We had a wonderful experience and every hotel and activity met or exceeded our expectations.

Our only obstacles were generally in the area of language. While everyone spoke English, we really had a tough time reading the signs or following directions that were written in Norwegian. This posed most challenging while driving. Some how we made it through the trip with just a parking ticket!
